Dr. Nagendra Sharma, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor 

Dr. Nagendra Sharma born on 5th September 1943 in a farmer family of Nalanda district, Bihar state. Did Bachelor degree in Veterinary Scienceand Animal Husbandry in 1966 from Ranchi University, Master’s degree in 1972 from Agra University and Doctoral in Poultry Science in the year 1980 from Rohilkhand University. He was awarded Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) from France in the year 1984.  As First Head of the Division of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), established the research-development & teaching facilities in  processing  quality  control  of  Livestock  Products.

Developed know-how for many products of milk and meat. His studies on biochemical changes in proteins & lipids due to processing, storage and marketing have contributed to basic and applied knowledge in the area of Food Science, food nutrition, human health, biotechnological areas for production of food and preservation of ecology. 

Worked as Joint Director (Academic) and Dean of Deemed University, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar from 1995 to 2001 and contributed to human resource development. Also worked as Director, IVRI from  March 1999 to 2000. Having 30 years experience in teaching, research, production, processing of milk, meat, poutry and fish products. Guided 15 Master’s and Doctoral scholars. Having more than 200 publications in journals of repute. Recipients of K.U. Patel Memorial Award, 1973, GITS  Aarad (1996), Malika Trivedi IAAVR Award (1999) and Lifetime Achievements Award for Veterinary profession in 2002 and Distinguished Veterinarian Award – 2004  for outstanding research and professional contributions. Theses done under his guidance were given Jawaharlal Nehru Award by ICAR. Fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India) & Fellow of Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Research (IAAVR).  Chairman of Food and Agriculture Division (FAD 56) of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), Chairman Dairy Products and Equipments Section Committee, FAD 19 of BIS. Working as member in Editorial Board of International Journal Meat Sciences, Indian Journal of Food Science & Technology and Indian Journal of Animal Sciences. Worked as Secretary, Indian Association of Meat Scientists and Technologists and President of Indian Association of small Ruminants.

     As Coordinator, organized many international trainings under Colombo Plan, UNDP/FAO, Commonwealth and other exchange programmes of Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan etc. I was team leader and member of committee to many African countries, UK, USA to organize quality education and improvement in social life and livelihood security. Worked as Chairman - Perspective planning, Expenditure Finance committee at various institutions. Developed Communication and Information Systems at IVRI, CIRG, NDRI and SKUAST-Jammu. Established Centres for Advanced studies in Nutrition, Physiology, Animal Products Technology and Biotechnology. Organized many seminar, symposium and International programmes on Agriculture Education. Worked as Member of Accreditation Board for evaluation of educational standards in universities and SAUs. Widely traveled to France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, U.K. , U.S.A.,Mozambique and many other countries to participate in various programmes of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry for Food Production and Nutritional security. Worked as FAO consultant on meat production and processing and environment improvement programmes in developing countries.

 Worked as Director, National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal mandated to provide R&D support for higher milk production, greater productivity of Dairy Industry, optimum use of agricultural land for fodder and food production leading to the social, economic and environmental benefits. NDRI, being the Deemed University also imparts under graduate and post-graduate education programmes for human Resource development as per need of the dairy sector of the nation. Also worked as Director for 2 years at Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG), Makhdoom, Farah, Mathura (U.P) and developed package of practices to help poor goat farmers. While working as Dean, of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Deemed University), Izatnagar, developed LAN, Internet & Intranet facilities, learning resource center, International Hostel, Girl’s Hostel and amenities for students. Anew Academic-cum-administrative building was also planned at IVRI. Strengthened KVKs, initiated integrated village development programmes focused on dairying and created separate facilities for Biotechnological research at NDRI, Karnal.
