Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry

The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry came into existence at Ranbir Singh Pura, Jammu on 15th December 1995 when it was formally inaugurated by then Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Gen. (Retd.) K.V. Krishna Rao. The fledgling institute became the regional hub of veterinary education under the erstwhile SKUAST, and then under SKUAST-Jammu on 20th September 1999, which bifurcated from the mother university. Sprawled over an area of 98 acres at Ranbir Singh Pura, the Faculty caters to the welfare of animal wealth and livestock farmers of the Jammu province. Education was initiated by a handful of pioneer and dedicated teachers who taught the first batch of pupils guiding them through their graduation programme. On 15th June 2000, the prescribed curriculum endorsed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) was implemented, together with the sanctioning of minimum recommended teaching posts. The Faculty soon flourished under the able leadership of many of its stalwarts and burgeoned in to a thriving strength of capable workforce. In the present day, the institute proudly features a resourceful and diverse scientific personnel coming from nooks and corners of the country from varied and elite organizations. This amalgamated representation has enabled the Faculty to intermingle diverse and liberal ideas through a unified scientific temperament. Under the aegis of many of its talented intellect, the Faculty finds a creditable representation in the National scenario today. The vastly acclaimed and diversified human resource generated through every batch of graduate and post-graduates is a living testimonial of the triumphant achievement of the alumnus contributing in every possible sphere of academic, scientific, administrative, industrial and even in the social domain. This Alma mater has been instrumental not only in contributing to animal health, but also to society, province and country alike.
