Teaching :

To teach, provide experiential learning and skill development to students and scholars through hands-on training, internships, and field exposure in rainfed agriculture and allied sectors.


Research :

To conduct need-based, multi-disciplinary research focused on improving productivity, sustainability, and resilience of rainfed agro-ecosystems under changing climatic conditions.


Extension :

To disseminate innovative technologies and best practices to farmers, stakeholders, and line departments through capacity building, demonstrations, and participatory approaches for enhanced livelihood security.


The flagship areas:

  • Climate Resilient Rainfed Agriculture – Developing and promoting adaptive strategies, technologies, and cropping systems to enhance resilience of rainfed farming under climate variability.
  • Natural Resource Management – Conservation and efficient utilization of soil, water, and biodiversity resources for sustainable agricultural productivity in rainfed regions.
  • Integrated Farming Systems – Promotion of diversified and integrated farming models to ensure livelihood security, nutritional self-sufficiency, and income enhancement for small and marginal farmers.
  • Technological Empowerment of Farmers – Capacity building and technology transfer through demonstrations, ICT tools, and participatory extension approaches to bridge yield gaps and improve on-farm decision-making.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu came into existence on 20th September, 1999 following the amendment in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Act, 1982 through the State Legislature with background aspirations, commitment and missionary zeal to cater the needs of entire region through integration of teaching, research and extension. The main goal is to increase agricultural production and productivity in sustainable manner for food, nutrition and livelihood security of people and overall economic prosperity of farming community for the entire Jammu region. Dry land Research Sub Station, Rakh Dhiansar was established in 1974 at present location and was renamed as Advanced Centre for Rainfed Agriculture (ACRA) which serves as a nodal centre to cater the research activities and technological requirements of rainfed areas of Jammu region extending from Akhnoor to Kathua districts of the region
