1.Exclusive jurisdiction throughout the Jammu Division for extension related to fruit culture 2.Dissemination of the findings of the research and technical information through extension education programme 3.To provide trainings, lectures and demonstrations to field workers, farmers and other persons not enrolled as regular students
The flagship areas of the Division of Fruit Science are as under:-
- Human resource development for horticultural research through post-graduate teaching and organizing training programmes in frontline areas in production, breeding and molecular research on fruit crops
- Evaluation and hybridization in mango, citrus, guava, strawberry, pecan nut and walnut for enhanced yield, better quality, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and attributes suited for industry and export
- Molecular characterization, improvement and in-vitro propagation of fruit crops Establishing high-density orchards of mango and guava, canopy management and other agronomic operations
- Production of quality planting material and bud wood bank of temperate and sub-tropical fruits suitable for Jammu Province Transfer of technology viz. Rejuvenation, top working and maturity indices through regular field demonstrations and preparation of extension leaflets/folders
